Women comprise half the population, well over half of all college graduates, 20-percent of all undergraduate engineering degrees, and yet are significantly underrepresented in the ocean technology sector. Women in Engineering aspires to change that.
Join Women in Engineering (WIE) and OceansAdvance for a breakfast session on Tuesday, October, 29, 2019, from 7:00 to 8:15 a.m. to learn how three female leaders in the oceans sector got started, stayed the course, and succeeded in a still-male-dominated technology sector. Guest speakers Veronica Lance, Ph.D., (Program Scientist, NOAA CoastWatch/OceanWatch/PolarWatch and Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Maryland’s CMNS-Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center), Niru Somayajula (President and Chief Executive Officer at Sensor Technology Ltd., Canada) and Shelly Leighton, M.Sc.Eng., P. Eng., CLS, (Chair and Instructor, Ocean Mapping Program, School of Ocean Technology, Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University) will share their sea stories and describe how they ended up on the water and at the helm in the wheelhouse.
Space is limited. Please register through the registration website before October 18, 2019.
